Gailes Links
Gailes Links is owned by Glasgow Golf Club, the 9th oldest Golf Club in the world. The course was opened in 1892 and in 1912 Willie Park Jr, the Open Champion in 1887 and 1889 in collaboration with the Club’s professional, combined their abilities to re-design the course layout. Park believed Gailes Links was one of his best course designs and, apart from its length increasing to the current 6,903 yards off the championship tees, the layout remains as Park created over a hundred years ago. The Championship Course is challenging, but fair, with heather and gorse lined fairways and greens with excellent and undulating putting surfaces, which are well guarded by some penalising bunkers. The Member’s tees provide a good test for players of all abilities, allowing visitors to sample links golf at its best. Gailes Links hosted the Open Championship Final Qualifying for Royal Troon and Turnberry from 1973 to 1997 and from 2014-17 was the Scottish Final Open Qualifying course. In amateur golf the course has hosted The Home Internationals, the Europe v USA Palmer Cup, the Scottish Amateur Championship, the Scottish Open Amateur Stroke-play Championship and other Senior and Youth amateur events.
